Mai Chau/ Son La/ Dien Bien Phu/ Phong Tho/ Sapa, 7 days

Day 1 HANOI / HOABINH / MAICHAU (L/D)
Pick up at your hotel and drive to the Thai minority village of Mai Chau via Hoa Binh in the heart of Tonkin. On the way stop at Song Da reservoir and enjoy a cruise on the lake then visit Muong and Dao minority villages and learn about the traditional life of the local people. In the afternoon continue to Mai Chau. Lunch en route.
Dinner and overnight in a stilt house.

Day 2 MAICHAU / SONLA (B/L)
After breakfast drive to Son La (200 km), home to Hmong, Black Thai and White Thai. Lunch en route and on arrival visit the Old French Prison and its museum, the Lookout Tower and stroll through villages in the south of the town.
Overnight in Son La.

Day 3 SON LA / DIEN BIEN PHU (B/L)
After breakfast depart at 7h00 and drive to Dien Bien Phu (170Km, more than 6 hours) through the Pha Din pass and its beautiful landscapes. On the way stop at Thuan Chau market, 40km from Son La, where you will see Black Thai people... On arrival lunch in a local restaurant then visit Dien Bien Phu Museum (closed on Monday and Tuesday), A1 Hill, Dien Bien Phu Cemetry, the bunker headquarters of the French commander, Colonel Christian de Castries and the Memorial dedicated to French soldiers.
Overnight in Dien Bien Phu.

Day 4 DIEN BIEN PHU / PHONG THO (B/L)
After breakfast drive to Phong Tho (190 Km) along the Nam Na valley. On the way 22 km from Dien Bien Phu, stop in Huoi Chan then in Muong May and Lai Chau. Along the way visit hamlets of Red H’mongs.
Lunch en route.
Overnight in Phong Tho.

Day 5 PHONG THO / SAPA (B)
After breakfast visit the local market then drive to the former mountains resort of Sapa (80km). On the way stop at Binh Lu and have a look at the market then enjoy a walk through tea plantations. Discover Thac Bac waterfall before arriving in Sapa and checking into the Hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure to explore the village of Sapa and its local market on your own.
Overnight in Sapa.

Day 6 SAPA (B)
After breakfast enjoy a full day of exploring in and around Sapa. Visit Ta Van village (Zay) and Lao Chai village (Mong) where you will enjoy a walk and discover the traditional way of life of these welcoming people. Rice paddies, wooden bridges, and rivers… This area, which still remains unspoiled, offers magnificent scenery. Discover Ta Phin (Red Dao village) and if you feel like it, enjoy a 3 hour walk to Ham Rong Mountain where you will visit an orchid garden and admire the beautiful panorama of Sapa.
Overnight in Sapa.

Day 7 SAPA / HANOI (B/L)
After breakfast return to Hanoi via Lao Cai and YenBai (400 km, a 12-hour drive with stops to visit Flower H’ Mong, Nung and Dao village on the way). On Sundays drive to Bac Ha market (or to Coc Ly on Tuesday), where you will have the opportunity to see Flower H’mongs, Fulas, Tays, Nungs and other ethnic minorities. Lunch en route. Arrive in Hanoi late in the evening and transfer to your hotel.
